How do air shocks work? Are they able to be adjusted to raise or lower the car?

How do you air and remove the air to change the car height? How do air shocks work? Are they able to be adjusted to raise or lower the car?
Air shocks, to oversimplify things, is basically using rubber chambers filled with air to control the car's height. Imagine you have a big beach ball, and you're sitting on it. If you change the amount of air inside the ball and you keep sitting on it, obviously you will move up or down relative to the ground, depending on whether you release or pump in air. This is the same concept with a car's air suspension. An air compressor is mounted somewhere, generally in the trunk area, and used to pump air into these springs/chambers to help control the car's height, and sometimes the stiffness of the suspension. Note that this is only a supplemental system, the car still has to have some sort of %26quot;normal%26quot; suspension setup in addition to air springs. How do air shocks work? Air shocks are just that.... %26quot;shocks%26quot;. They are designed to absorb / dampen the energy that is generated by the actual suspension of your vehicle on the rough spots of the road. Shocks are not made to lift / lower your vehicle; thats the suspensions job. If your looking for something 'custom' to lift and lower the height of your vehicle you need to look into an air bag, or hydraulic type suspension to replace your original equipment. How do air shocks work? You hook up little hoses to the air shock, when you want to raise the car goto the gas station and put air in, lower the car press in the air valve. let out air and the car goes down. I would not recommend air shocks, they are very rough riding and will tear out the shock mounts.
