How hard is it and wha are the secrets to changing shocks on a 1995 mercedes benz c220?

my mechanic wants to charge me over three hudred dollars to replace my shocks. And that is just labor. How hard is it or even dangerous to do this job myself. On a scale of 1-10 I am about a 4 and a half as a mechanic. And what are the keys to doing it correctly? How hard is it and wha are the secrets to changing shocks on a 1995 mercedes benz c220?
I would say depending on the car and type and location it varies from a level 4-7 with most cars falling in between the 5 -6 range of difficulty. Since you are a 4 that means it is pushing your limit but it is still within your reach if you have a good repair manual or online guide to go by. The secret is to only take one off a time so you can always look back at the other side for reference. $300 just for labor in my opinion is a bit much. You should negotiate it down to $200. Also you can buy the shocks yourself and save another $100 or so what shop usually would charge you. You can get a 4 set for around $200 or less for great shocks. Ask the shop if you bought your own shocks how much will it cost to install it. Most shops will do this but some won't so ask first before buying the shocks or go to a shop that will installed your purchased shocks. The shop will probably charge you $250 or $300 for a set of 4 for average crappy stock shocks that they installed.

The keys to doing it correctly is taking your time and making sure you tightened every bolt to specifications . Make sure not to rush and if a part or not is difficult to remove just soak it with penetration and let it set for some time and come back to it. It will save you lots of energy fighting stubborn nuts and from cursing. How hard is it and wha are the secrets to changing shocks on a 1995 mercedes benz c220?

It isn't something you want to do. It isn't hard to put new ones on, its taking the old ones off that is the problem, unless you have and know how to use a cutting torch. I would try Midis. you can probable get a little cheaper price, but it is a Marcedes, they see you coming even though its old. I have done alot of car mechanics, but the three thing I won't do any more are change oil, exhaust, and shocks. not worth my time.
