Changing shocks??

i got a 1996 doge neon it needs new shocks but i dont want to take it to a mechanic soo how do they do it

p.s. if ur going to tell me to take it to a mechanic dont bother answearing my question

p.p.s. some visual charts or something will help thank youChanging shocks??
OK listen to this , The shocks are housed in coil springs , There is NO WAY you can put them on by your self the springs are under pressure and if not released properly will take your head off , You need a press hope this helped.Changing shocks??
i own a shop and id take it to a mechanicChanging shocks??
first is neon uses struts and they hold the coil spring in. so chances are if you didn't know that then you don't have the tools or exp. to keep from hurting yourself. leave it aloneChanging shocks??
do you mean the back shocks?if its the back,i thing the top of the shock come up through the trunk, you take the nut, bushing and washer off, then the bottom,i cant remember, but i think the bottom is like the top, just a nut, bushing and washer.Changing shocks??
are you talking frong shocks? If so then they are struts and you need a coil spring compressor to do this job...and if not done properly could cost you dearly..physically I mean. IF you don't have the tools to do the job...or if you have to ask...sorry but let someone who knows do it.

if it has rear shocks...rather than rear struts...just unbolt them and put the new ones on...if it has rear struts on the other hand...let a pro do it...you're gonna get hurt.Changing shocks??
the rear shocks are not that hard to change but if you dont have the right uquipment it can be hard an impact wrench is a must and a spring or coil compressor is needed if their are springs.

place the coil compressors on the springs and tighten them ntill they compress slightly then you need to lack up the rear end of the vehicle remove the bolt from the bottom of the shock then the top nuts from probably inside the trunk area i must warn you though if thay are struts you will nee a strut compressor other wise dont try and above all be carefull the springs can slipp and ingure uChanging shocks??
You should be skill full as this is not that easy, There is a separate mounting assembly at the top of the shocks, and this mounts to the car You have to know how they work or you will have a clunking sound from this assembly. This is a job I've done and you would be spending lots of time doing this job. I'm a mechanic and they are a pain to work on as you will find out quickly.
