As I came to the entrance of the tunnel, I noticed that the ground is getting smoother. So smooth I could slide down the tunnel and into the cave we’re looking for. My partner and I decide that he should go first. We’re wearing our heavy bullet proof vests and stealthily black mission uniforms so we slide quickly and silently down the slide like tunnel, landing one at a time, on the dirty floor of an underground hide out. I pull out a flashlight and Josh copies me. As I gaze around the room I can see it hasn’t been used in a very long time. The only trace that someone had been here recently was a trail of shoe prints leading to a lone box sitting on a shelf.
We approach cautiously and in the end Josh opens the box. I was surprised and scared of what was inside the box. It was not something basic like stolen goods or evil plans stacked in that box but explosives. And sitting on top of the explosives was a timer which read 0:30 and was counting down. It had been a trap. We had to run. After a quick scan and realising there was no other exits Josh pushed me head first up the tunnel we came from. I scrambled up as fast as I could all the while my panic was building. As I neared the top and could see the moonlight reflecting off the tunnel walls. I glanced back over my shoulder to see how far away my partner was. He was close, so close I could see his shape, enhanced by a yellow glow and the echoes of the explosion finally reached me.
The shock wave hit him first throwing him towards me. But before he could run into me the shock wave pushed me high into the air and almost over the cliff face. I saw Josh land safely in some bushes just as I make impact, back first, into the rocky cliff face. The last thing I remember was seeing the hazy outline of partner leaning over me one hand holding a communicator to his ear, the other one shaking me vigorously.

I regained consciousness briefly after what seemed like minutes but turned out to be hours. All I saw was white. Doc was shining a light in my eyes and trying to get me to respond by asking me “Stephanie, can you hear me?” multiple times. Yes, of course I can hear you. I tried to say. But I couldn’t seem to move my lips. My back was dully aching and I felt a bandage on my head. I had time to breath in the smell of disinfectant before I heard him. “Is she gunna be alright Doc?” asked Josh in a worried tone. “I don’t think so Josh,” he replied, taking in a deep breath before continuing “she’s been under a long time”. The last thing I heard was my partner cursing audibly before I fell into a deep sleep.
I woke a couple of weeks later in one of those stupid hospital robes that doesn’t do up at the back, lying on my side. I could hear voices and someone was holding me down. “Have you got the needle ready Doc? Cause I still feel like someone else should be doing this”. A familiar voice asked. “Yep it’s ready. All you need to do is hold her steady and if she starts shaking after I inject her it means her spine still works”. I soon realised I could speak and did so promptly. “Hey, Doc. Do you have to give me a needle; you know how much I hate them?” I asked. I felt the grip on my side loosen and the familiar voice say “Did she just speak?” I rolled over and stated “Well of course I just spoke; you didn’t think I was brain dead did you?” I asked the young man who had been holding me. I look of shear shock crossed Docs and now that I remembered him, Zacks face. Doc was the first to recover “Well no, but we did think you had become paraplegic” he admitted laughing a little. “Well that’s just ridiculous,” I said sitting up. Doc quickly moved to steady me but I was fine and the look on his face changed from shocked, to what I could only call flabbergasted. “I’m perfectly fine” I stated as if it were a true fact. I swung my legs around so they were hanging over the edge of the bed and stood up. I was surprised at my own strength considering it felt like I’d been in bed for a month. It was all going fine until I felt a tremor move down my leg. I soon collapsed hitting my head on the bed on the way down. The last thing I remember was seeing the colours of flowers that people had left for me.

There were voices. Why is it that I always wake up to voices? I mean I wouldn’t mind some peace and quiet once in a while.
After a minute or two I began to distinguish the voices from one another. I could hear Zack and Josh in deep conversation about the last time I woke up. There was also Emily, Francis, Dana, Doc and Harry. I opened my eyes and looked at the ceiling. That’s when it dawned on me. I was a cripple. Which meant my career and my whole life had just been flushed down the toilet. That was when Dana noticed I was awake. “Hey girl, good to see you decided to stop us from being on the edges of our seats” SDoes this story sound alright so far?
